Case Selection

What type of cases will be assigned to each doctor?

Introduction: A questionnaire consisting of 25 questions and background information will be mailed to all attending dentists to allow Dr. Qusai Alkhasawnah to classify each doctor as Novice, Intermediate or Advanced. Once this is done, cases will be assigned to match each doctor’s level of surgical experience and formal training. Every attempt will be made to select patients that will fulfill everyone’s educational goals but it is important to remember that we are working on human beings and Dr.Qusai must maintain professional responsibility and therefore doctors will only be assigned cases that are within their scope of training.

Novice

Doctors with minimal experience will perform simple surgeries that will focus on diagnosis treatment planning, utilizing digital x-rays and models, soft tissue management ( flaps and suturing techniques), drilling protocols (RPM and torque controls), drilling sequence for different surgical kits (Taper, Ultra-wide and Minis kits), angulations and implant positioning (dealing with mesio, distal, buccal and lingual bone topography), understanding surgical safety zones, common surgical errors, armamentarium, pre and post op medications and common complications.

Novice Cases

  • Simple Taper implant placement in the aesthetic zone.
  • Simple Taper implant placement in posterior partially edentulous zone.
  • Mini implant placement in fully edentulous patients with adequate bone.
  • Molar ultra-wide implant placement in extraction sites.

Case Advance

Doctors with ample surgical experience and advanced training will operate on complex and challenging cases that will teach them how to treat patients with atrophic mandibles and maxillas. They will perform advanced bone grafting techniques, lateral window designs for atrophic maxillas with  residual bone less than 3mm and surgical /prosthetic protocols for full arch immediate loading utilizing the proven technique of “Teeth in One Day”.

Advanced Cases

1.  “Teeth in One Day” surgical and restorative technique: full arch extractions, full arch immediate implant placement and same day fixed bridge full arch loading. This is one of the most advanced cases available since it requires high level of surgery and prosthetics.

2. Intra-crestal / hydraulic sinus lift technique for semi atrophic maxillas with 5 or more mm of residual anatomical bone

3.Lateral sinus lifts for completely atrophic antrum with less than three mm of residual anatomical bone.

Case Intermediate

Doctors with intermediate experience will operate on semi complex cases that will focus on more challenging cases dealing with soft tissue management of full arch incisions, modified drilling protocols at reduced RPM, under preparation of sites, simple bone harvesting techniques, drilling sequence for different surgical kits (Taper, Ultra-wide, Minis and Intra crestal sinus lift kits) and learning predictable intra-crestal hydraulic sinus elevations.

Intermediate Cases

1. Immediate Taper implant, abutment and immediate provisional crown in the aesthetic zone.

2. Full arch Taper implant placement in fully edentulous patients to be restored with fixed bridges.

3. Immediate mini implant loading.

4.Intra crestal sins lifts using CAS kits and hydraulic technique for cases with 5 or more residual bone
